Attachment Disorder
Children who have experienced neglect or abuse in their very early life often continue to exhibit signs of trauma for a considerable length of time, continuing into their adult life. Symptoms of Attachment Disorder are varied and can include physical outbursts, manipulation and mistrust of adults, poor social awareness or even eating disorders.
A mental health professional will often assist in providing therapy to address the root cause of the issues. However, Attachment Disorder can be accompanied by various learning difficulties creating negative cycles. Due to the complicated nature of this disorder, please contact us with specific questions or requests. We have however provided an initial list of resources in order that you may gain an idea of associated cost and the support we are able to provide.

The colours of our emotions
This system provides a mechanism through which children are able to show and explain complex emotions. Basic emotions such as happiness, sadness and anger are attributed a colour (chosen by the individual). A form of communication (such as emotion clouds) can then be built on this foundation, providing a continuous feed of information and release for the child. Many will wish for this account to be a private record, so can be kept with an office environment or a secure system can be provided.

Scenario sequence
This resource provides a child with the opportunity to communicate a specific situation to a named adult. A 'comic-book' style book with colour coded (see above resource) labels such as emotions speech bubbles provides an outlet and opportunity for a child to explain a cause of anxiety or upset without needing to communicate verbally.

Issue identification
Distinguishing between serious and minor issues can be difficult for any child but is extraordinarily so for a child with attachment issues. In order to avoid a child examining the potential extreme ramifications of a situation, this simple 'mouse problem or elephant problem' assists them in creating a workable system. As this resource is designed for specific children and their own individual understanding and communication, please contact us for further information.
